Dry January
Christmas once again has been a blast. Mass hysteria at Gatwick delayed the start but eventually I was able to enjoy the peerless beers of England, great wines, gins and whiskys too- I really couldn’t think of a reason or an excuse not to drink for the whole week. It never felt excessive to me but it was definitely much more than 14 units a week. Finally New Years Eve’s consumption made me feel ill and I’m not going to drink for a month.
I’ve read in several places that its not of much benefit and encourages people to drink too much before going dry. Whatever, the damage has been done and I sense this may be quite hard to stick with in a weeks time when the hangover is over. I’ve already been to the supermarket to buy food and somehow purchased a bottle of whisky on special offer. Alcohol contains 7 calories/gram-so its highly fattening.
The Drinkaware website gives lots of evidence based reasons to give up/ drink less and to moderate so its well worth reading. I’m also going to monitor the time I have for doing other things as I’ve read it is one of the advantages of not drinking. A unit of alcohol contain 56 calories and offers nothing else so is often called ’empty calories’
So, are you participating in Dry January Matt ?
